Scenes From The Weekend -- Millie's Birthday Edition

As promised, I'm back with snaps from Millie's birthday soiree this weekend. (And friends, there are lots and lots of snaps...sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

I mentioned that the Millster's been a wee bit obsessed with all things Asian of late (noodles, dumplings, the soundtrack from The Last Emperor...you name it), so for her b-day we went with a bit of an homage to her obsession. Sleuthing out all the bits and bobs was the fun part, with Millie nearly passing out from excitement during a trip to the Asian grocery near our house. In between munching on pink cupcakes and fortune cookies, we kept things pretty low-key with the girlies playing "pin the ponytail" on the girl, wacking at a Pinata, and making little origami fans and envelopes.

But the best part, by far, was watching Millie's pure joy at  the whole enterprise. I have literally never seen a child more excited about her birthday...from the moment she opened her eyes (at the crack of dawn) until she passed out that evening, utterly exhausted and clutching a fortune cookie in each little hand, she was completely and totally over the moon. It was a pretty sweet scene.

Love it, the images, all of it. Mostly, the effort that you put into it, just to put a smile on your child's face. A big o'l mom high-5 all the way from Cali. I am a firm believer in teaching our kids about finding the beauty in the ordinary and appreciating thoughtful details. Charles Mingus said "Making the simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity"

So great! I have two girls also (ages 6.5 and little sister about to turn 5). It's always amazing to see those smiles of pure excitement. Looks like you gave her a wonderful birthday!!

Where did she pick up this obsession? I love it! (Says the Asian reader ;) My mom used to drag me to Asian food stores all the time when I was younger and the smell of fish has been ingrained in my memory. You're a good mom to endure it!

This party is so, so great! I can appreciate all the love you put into it and all her happiness just warms my heart!

Happy 6th birthday sweet girl!

This is fantastic! First off I so love when kids have certain things that they treasure or find interesting. I think it is adorable that she is into all things Asian! My daughter is currently into collections ( I call it hoarding) and it cracks me up! Your attention to detail in the decor is outstanding! She will always remember this birthday! Good stuff!

So cute Joslyn! Love it all. Such a pretty bday girl, she looks so happy! My gal has been SO into everything Japanese for quite some time...for us, it was the Little Traveler's "Japan" dvd (travel doc) that did it for her and the Japanese festivals at Botanical Gardens in FW. Millie would love both of those things for sure! :)

How cute!! Her lil Kimono is adorable! Happy belated Birthday to Millie! I'm not sure if this movie is in the Disney vault or is still available to be bought, but if she hasn't I would let her watch Mulan! Really cute almost Disney princess movie!! =)
