Some Scenes From The Weekend...

family photo by the lovely kelly christine (yes, it's possible that Millie is indeed picking her nose, but I'm not sayin for sure)

The entire weekend was a bit of an exercise in letting go, from a little family photo session on Friday (what is it with taking family photos that sends my crew into such a tizzy?) to our location-challenged (but ultimately really successful) tinyDallas art event on Saturday to dealing with two decidedly grumpy, tantrum-prone girlies for the better part of Sunday... Let's just say I had ample opportunity to practice yoga breathing and embrace zen parenting.

But despite the stress I felt in the immediate moment(s), it was a good two days. We managed to eek out some learning in the chaos, some laughing in the mishap, some calm after the storm... so all was not lost.

And to further lick our wounds, we dug into a Sunday family dinner of Bryan's (awesome) homemade macaroni and cheese, some really excellent grilled chicken and perhaps the best Brussels sprouts I have ever turned out (I sauteed them in brown butter and then tossed them with a little soy sauce...), so we went out on a high note for sure.

The family photo is amazing...looks like you shot it for a magazine! It's a bummer when fabulous things are kind of stressful. I think the true measure of a woman is if she can deal with the stress and ultimately let it go and laugh. It sounds like you definitely did. It's hard! :)

Love that family photo. Looks like a classic holiday card to me. And brussel sprouts sound yummy right about now.

The photo of the succulents on the stereo makes me think of Joni Mitchell for some reason...and today's her birthday! Maybe that's why? It looks of another era for sure...

I saw you in the magazine. I had a similar journey in 2010--not buying *almost* anything new for an entire year. I need some inspiration for 2012, and your blog is refreshing.

I also adore that pistachio paint color you have. Can you share it's source and name? xo

I love hearing about your weekends...and I completely relate to the family photo thing. So strange, right? Whenever we go to take our girls Christmas photo...the sh*t hits the fan! Really?! Is it that hard to just sit still for 5 minutes? sigh. :) Glad you went out on a high note though! :)
