Some Scenes From The Weekend...

Sam's gorgeous "Boerne I" made it's way into my house this weekend...

My mom mesmerized over our sweet little friend Charlotte's curls...

I had a couple of wholly magical moments this weekend...the kind that are so dreamy in fact that you can’t help but acknowledge them as they're actually occurring, feeling all blissed out and just really lucky. And, as with most magic moments, there was nothing particularly extravagant about them (rarely does a magic moment occur on say, New Year’s Eve), rather they were quiet, sort of sneaking up on me in the best possible way.

The first occurred on Thursday night when we went to see The Orbans perform at the Belmont Hotel with our friends Julie and Tim (yes we went out on a Thursday night…I was feeling all sprightly and collegiate). We were sitting outside by the Belmont’s pool with about 200 other folks, looking out at the lit-up Dallas skyline and our awesome in-progress Santiago Calatrava designed bridge, and it was just this perfect trifecta of spending time with people we love, (really) good music, and a view of our city that we experience far too rarely.

The second moment happened on Saturday night after grilling in the backyard with our friends Jason and Sharon and their sweet girlies. After everyone left and we were sort of shutting things down for the night, we decided to partake in some impromptu night-swimming. It was just Bryan, my mom, the girlies and me splashing around under the stars, and at some point during the hour or so we were in the pool, we each independently declared (to no one in particular, to the collective group, to the night sky), “this is the best. night. ever."

And really, it was.

Beyond stumbling on magic, the weekend also included a great “grown-up” dinner at Sam’s house with our friends Sarah and Josh on Friday and another round of pork tacos on Sunday (but this time, since I had more time to futz around in the kitchen, I tried out this recipe slightly modified for the slow cooker...v. yummy). I'm also happy to report that I accomplished the “2011 great closet clean-out” -- a highly satisfying project. I’ll share more details and a few goodies that I’m selling later this week. Stay tuned.

Hope your weekend was lovely friends!

Your blog has me seriously wanting a backyard pool!

Also, I tend to notice (appreciate?) the small moments in life more after things have been kind of rough- makes me think that all of the stress of your flood, family illnesses, ect. have a silver lining in that now just everyday life feels dreamy, know what I mean?

It's like the old Kahil Gibran passage 'The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.' :)
