And Speaking of Stepping Out of The Comfort Zone...

After our red lipstick discussion yesterday, I thought I'd share a couple more "risks" I've taken of late, but this time of the sartorial variety.

For starters, I recently bought a light denim button down (very similar to one I owned in high school, which feels a little wrong, but I went with it anyway), and then, with Jenna Lyons as my muse, I wore it with jeans.

Yes, double denim, a Texas tuxedo. Oh how I have fallen.

But wait, there's more... I also purchased shorts. Shorts. For all sorts of sundry reasons, I hate shorts (for me). Hate. Them. So really I have no idea whatsoever what I was thinking, (the heat has clearly gone to my head) but I bought a pair, specifically the pair above, three full weeks ago.

True, I have yet to wear them... But the fact that I actually purchased them is something.

And because I had to get hubby on the "change-train" too, I finally convinced him to grown a beard. Well that's not 100% true, he actually had to grow a beard after his surgery since it was impossible to shave with his left arm in a cast (he's left handed), and then, despite his incessant complaining that it was hot and itchy and uncomfortable, I "forced" him to keep it.

I really, really like a beard. A lot. + he now looks an awful lot like Shel Silverstein, who, it should be noted, I have a long-standing, massive crush on. Just sayin'.

And finally (I had to throw one more in) I'm really digging Jessica B's lipstick...not quite red, not quite orange, kinda shimmery. V. nice.

Ok that's all ;-)

Change is good! I wish you had included pics of you in your "Texas tuxedo." I would've loved to have seen how you styled it!

Hilarious. I actually wore a texas tuxedo the other day too, much to my own surprise, and even more surprising, I totally enjoyed it! Keep rocking it, along with your red lipstick! ps- I did buy the fuchsia lipstick I'd had my eye on, that'll be me, stepping waaaay out of my comfort zone. Shorts, though, on me, not gonna happen. Just saying.

Joslyn, we are like kindred spirits! First of all, I was honestly contemplating writing a post about risk taking (because I'm not much of a risk-taker, and I'm constantly in awe of my children who are so brave every day as they learn new things -- they're 21 months old, now), and secondly, because one of my biggest things that got me to thinking about how brave i am not is that I am scared to wear red lipstick!

Seriously, I read this and the post before and just couldn't believe how close your writing was to my thoughts. I had to share!

xo, Kristin

PS -- I forgot there's a third. I just bought shorts from the Gap for the first time EVER. I haven't worn shorts since I was a kid. Hate them, too. And not sure what came over me either. But I have now worn them twice and actually kind of like them!! Good luck with yours. ;)

Oh I wish I wish I wish Ben Blair would grow a beard. But he can't seem to make it through the itchy stage.

I feel the exact same way about shorts! I bought TWO pairs a few months ago for the warmer months, and have yet to wear them. I probably never will, but like you said, just buying them is a big enough step.

You are cracking me up this week! I wasn't a huge shorts fan until I found a pair right before our honeymoon last year - I now wear them all the time.

Change is good my friend! What size did you get in the Chance dress - I've been meaning to buy it for some vacations coming up.

I thought double denim was a Canadian tuxedo? Oh well, I suppose both are applicable. If that's the case, I wore one recently as well. Embrace it. Lovely post, as always. xo

I beg my husband to keep a beard. In fact, it was my Christmas present last year.

Love Shel Silverstein- so, so much!

A great way to ease into wearing shorts - white shorts with easy-breezy white top. So many possibilities for greatness there. ;)

Wow, Shel has been a huge part of our lives for 13 years and now I see the beard behind the man. It is convincing...and the two denims even more so.

I hear you on the shorts. It is my fashion albatross. I'll wear them if you wear them!

No way I'm going to wear shorts no matter how trendy they are. A girl has to know her limits. But I do love the red lipstick.

Ha! I have trouble wearing shorts as well... Skirts are just much easier.
