Spending Hiatus Support Group – Week Six

Some scenes from the weekend

Can you belive we're six weeks in?

And this was my easiest week yet -- by far… I must be in a groove, or maybe we were just busy...

Busy with school, busy with work, busy with a fun new project (more on that later), busy with nasty head colds all around, basically too busy to shop, to think about shopping, to find stuff that I’d like to shop for… You get the idea.

Then we made a quick weekend trip to see sweet new baby (Adelyne) and visit cousins, and we kept so busy eating homemade tamales and cooing over the baby and drinking key lime margaritas and laughing and well just having an altogether lovely time that shopping was way, way off the radar.

And honestly, it was a pretty great week (even with that nasty head cold).

How did you guys do?

I think the spending hiatus is such a great idea. More power to you for 6 weeks strong.

Well, I did fine. It wasn't an easy week for me, but I made it. I almost crumbled and went and bought some non essentials at Target, but persevered. Onward.

I have a confession... I broke down this week and bought a sweater coat that I'd been eying for a while (in my defense it was the last one which happened to be in my size and was marked from $120 to $3.97...I know excuses excuses) I feel like a dog with my tail between my legs and I needed to confess.

spent way too much money at ikea this last wk! But that was pre-planned master re-do, right?! I refrained(see blog post today) but will crack on those too bc I just HAVE to get this room DONE! Glad you had a great trip! We were going to make an ikea run today at lunch- just remembered. Oh well...next time. Can't wait to visit more.

I'm holding up well, although I'm a couple weeks behind you. For a long time I have had the habit of looking at something, deciding I love it, thinking I could make it and buying it anyway. So, I am making a lot more things. only problem is that now I have a lot of half done projects around the house!

Trying very hard! I just got my salary cut so now I think I really need to commit to this idea. This weekend was the first time I didn't by the nicest olive oil at the store so hopefully I am headed in the right direction!

We had a complete weekend in so no shopping other than for groceries - which are essential but cost a lot of $$$. Took the boys to the library and to the Science Center (all free entertainment).

Sounds like a good way to avoid spending money... especially those homemade tamales! yum.

I've found it to be the easiest week too. I'm glad it's getting easier, rather than harder. I find I just don't think about it all that much anymore.

I had the same experience as you, or close to it- I was too busy all week to even get to the grocery for things I needed, much less go shopping. Over the weekend I kept busy with friends and family, so no shopping then either. I did find a couple of things I wanted, though, and posted them in my update.

I need a little advice from fellow no-spenders on whether workout clothes should wait until after the spending hiatus. I have a feeling the answer is yes, but *whine* all my workout clothes are ratty and I'm just trying to get back to my gym habit.

Here's my update:

And I love your photos- they make me want to take a walk and drink some key lime margaritas :)

I stumbled upon your blog recently and I am so very glad I did.....I haven't yet committed to the Spending HIatus, but I have definitely been more mindful of my spending since reading all about your adventures in non-spending :) Thanks for taking the time to inspire us, Kristy

This hiatus just seems to get easier and easier as we go. While I'm looking forward to the end of it, I'm okay with saving money for a change. Thanks for the challenge!

After seeing those limes, looks like it was a happening weekend!

when i saw the limes, I knew your weekend was fun!
I fell off the wagon and bought a new alarm clock (had mine since high school, the button don't work very well but still work)
Alarm clock are expensive.....of course I bought the more hip looking one opposed to the cheap plastic 10 dollar one.

La Salle Hotel?! That must be CS! My hubby took me there for my birthday last year. I'm a UT Longhorn, but I loved that little trip.

And I love EVERYTHING about your blog. And I'm "obsessed with white" too, although I think I imagine myself as a color-lover. Can't deny my true design aesthetic.
