Going to My Happy Place

When I need something dreamy, inspiring and lovely to look at I always go to Jen’s photography. Always. It's the perfect Vegas antidote, no?

I wasn’t going to mention this, as I’m a bit in denial that it's even happening, but I’ve been in Las Vegas for the last 48 hours for a work meeting.

Yes, Las Vegas. Let’s just say I’m not so much a fan of Las Vegas …well actually I am a fan of the idea of “old school” Las Vegas …rat pack, dressy, "elegant debauchery" Vegas, but that’s not the reality of current Vegas. At all.

It goes without saying, but Vegas is not subtle in any way. And I tend to prefer subtle almost without fail. I always find the odd/pretty girl (i.e. Sofia Coppola) so much prettier that that girl from the beer commercial.

Vegas is not Sofia Coppola. It’s the beer ad girl... For sure.

The one slight consolation of being here is that there’s an Urban Outfitters in my hotel, and I can safely say it’s the cleanest, most organized, best merchandized Urban Outfitters I’ve ever seen. So while everyone else is gambling at 11:00 pm in Vegas, I’m browsing around an empty UO looking for a little token to bring home to Audrey. I ended up with a few tins of band-aids printed with unicorns and rainbows… They’re pretty awesome – and a nice alternative to the Disney princess band-aids that the child begs for every. single. time. we go to the store. Every time.

Me too. I am all about the subtle. Hope you get to escape Vegas soon!:)

I've never been to Vegas and every time I say that someone looks at me like I'm crazy! But I'd honestly rather go camping in the desert than get crowded among neon lights.
The well stocked UO does sound tempting though.

I've never been to Vegas, never had the desire to go, but I could be swayed by that Urban's you're visiting. ;)

I feel the same way about Vegas. It's really quite sad actually. But I'm with you on the late night shopping. Love it.

Great tip about shopping for little ones at UO by the way. I'm always up for great finds sans licensed characters :)

I thought I was the only person that didn't like Las Vegas....I feel like such a party pooper even saying that! The only consolation in that city is eating at a great restaurant (perhaps Bouchon?) and doing a little spa-ing. I hear the Wynn is great (although I haven't been). Will have to try late-night shopping next time the husband drags me there.

Lovely post, I don't know Las Vegas but like the way you talk about this exeprience. I hope you won't stay stuck there too long though :)

This post cracked me up :) I am with you, so NOT a neo-vegas girl. I prefer subtle....almost every time too. I would also be haunting that Urban Outfitters searching for something for my girls..:)

I completely agree! I've never once considered vacationing in Vegas; I'm definitely not one for the beer ad girl, either :o)

Oh, that shot of the bowl is simply gorgeous. White on white (or cream, or beige, or tan) gets me every time.

This cracked me up, Miss Joslyn! :) I haven't been to Vegas but this is exactly the conundrum I think I would face! I am SO glad to hear someone who's willing to say "Blah Vegas" as it would seem EVERYONE tells me I should go...? What a blessed relief!
