Blogger's Favorites -- Erin of Design for Mankind

I am awfully fond of Erin...

She's one of those rare (and usually jealousy inducing) combos of brilliant and witty and funny and gorgeous... And then there's her fantastic taste and her ability to sleuth out interesting, lovely, thought-provoking art and present it to the Internet masses in a completely approachable way via her stellar blog. (Oh and there's also the house she's renovating, and her genius video series, Dialogue, and her fantastic life list...)

Yep, you want to be jealous, but you can't, because, well... she's also so. freakin. nice.

So, yes, I'm awfully fond of her.

And I'm also awfully fond of her favorites...and I think you will be too! Without further ado, herewith Erin's list. Enjoy!

The Husband -- This is so cliché, but after a rough few weeks I'm once again reminded how crazy this world would seem without him as my partner in crime. He's a goodie!

Thunderstorms -- Nothing calms me down quite like a thunderstorm. It immediately puts things in perspective and reminds me of my childhood, where I'd sit on our front porch and devour a book in the pouring rain. To me, there's nothing more beautiful than those memories.

Music -- Vague, yes. My apologies. But music? Oh, it moves me. All kinds. Nothing can put me in a better mood than an old Billy Joel tune or something Tom Petty-ish. And Carly Simon? Oh, we can't even talk about how in love I am with Carly Simon...

Blank journals -- I have a love/hate relationship with blank journals. I love them when they land in my home, but then they sit there, as I'm afraid of ruining the beauty of the blank pages. Clearly, I need psychotherapy.

Boots -- When it comes to style, I pair boots with everything. Dresses, skirts, boyfriend jeans --- everything. A gal can never have enough (a) lipgloss, (b) bobby pins and (c) boots.

Rosebud Salve -- Specifically, this is my go-to beauty product that I will never, ever be seen without. Tames my eyebrows, glosses my lips, softens my cuticles -- I've even used it as eyeshadow in the summertime. The stuff is amazing.

Cheese -- I'm trying to get Husband to name our future daughter Ella Bleu (don't steal that name, Internet!) after one of my favorite cheeses, but he's not quite game. Anyway, I can eat wheels of cheese in my wildest dreams. Really, cheese. It's what my dreams are made of.

A Great Book -- Nothing beats a good read. My favorite are quirky memoirs that I pretend I've written myself. Check out Sloane Crosley's "I Was Told There'd Be Cake." I wrote it. Again, in my dreams.

Crisp Sheets -- You guys. There is nothing better than investing in some great bedding. Really. There's just no need to ever leave your bed, really. Ever.

I'm reading that book right now and also wishing that I loved it more. Interesting. Although, I totally agree on the quality bed linens. Nothing better.

I didn't know that was the name of a cheese! John Travolta named his daughter Ella Bleu:)

Oh my gosh I loved that book. When you said you wrote it, I did a double take... I was like, oh my gosh that's so awesome! and then I saw, 'in my dreams' and went... oh darn it! Well, anyway, its one of my favorite books, thanks so much! :)

Awesome list - we have a lot in common. I think I'm going to have to do this too.

I was meh on that book as well. I love memoirs; so it is weird. If you love funny memoirs, read Jen Lancaster. In order. The first is the best, obviously. But read them all!
I agree with the rosebud salve and cheese!
And I LOVE your life list.

oh gracious, joslyn -- you say such nice things to me! thank you.

and those of you who couldn't get into sloan, i should say that it definitely takes a certain sort of sense of humor. equal parts dark and introspective, i'd say.

which is totally me. and yes -- i wish i wrote that!

thanks for having me, jos. ;)

Ella Bleu is a great name - a really great name because it's unique but it also sounds good with the words doctor and senator in front.
