The Christmas Menu…Decided

Image via gourmet (Don't worry! We’re not eating reindeer.)

So after much meal planning drama (and all your amazing suggestions), we’ve decided to go with Thanksgiving redux for our Christmas day meal. I was pushing to do something different, but in the end I was overruled by my family (Audrey insisted on turkey, my dad, who hails from Louisiana, is making rice dressing, Bryan’s folks want ham and truth be told I really, really want cranberries.) So we’ll go with the traditional “Thanksgiving” meal + the rice dressing on Christmas day.

Another image via the amazing Roland Bello.

On Christmas Eve, we’ll do something a little different:
  • Hearts of palm salad with candied walnuts and gorgonzola (this recipe is pretty amazing, let me know if you’d like me to share.)
  • Chicken and mushroom risotto
  • Chocolate pots of crème (this recipe is my favorite...)
  • And of course lots of champagne!

p.s. -- I noticed in the latest Goop newsletter that Gwyneth makes the Thanksgiving meal on Christmas, and somehow this made me feel better… How sad is that?? Perhaps I should start a new regular post called "What Would Gwyneth Do" (WWGD.)

OK, I just about choked on my coffee when I read "Christmas Menu" and then saw the photo of a reindeer.

Glad to see you're not having Rudolf for dinner :) Your menu sounds delicious!

(P.S. I think a WWGD series would be great - I love waking up to the latest GOOP nesletter in my Inbox!)

I agree with Suzanne about WWGD-i just adore here! The Christmas Eve menu sounds incredible--I love salads with candied walnuts and risotto, how warming for a Christmas eve meal.

So funny that you mentioned GOOP. I totally had a "They're just like US" moment when I read it this morning, since we too have Thanksgiving dinner for Christmas. Yummy. I'm really looking forward to it this year. I need some comfort food I think!

That salad recipe sounds really good.

I stayed up late the other night watching "Emma". She can't help how fabulous she is, can she?

I've been watching her drive around Spain with Mario Batali on their PBS show, and I find her delightful.

I was a GOOP hater until she recommended a bunch of my favorite LA restaurants on the ultimate local's list... which made me feel weirdly proud and pissed at the same time.

It's actually really custom for Brits to have turkey at Thanksgiving... and if you ask me it's so good it's worth doing twice! Have a great holiday.

I love turkey on Christmas day! Christmas Eve is the big day for my family and we always have classic fondue in the pot that my mom brought back from studying in Switzerland while in college. It's the best tradition and then we stay up late opening presents, talking, and eating Christmas cookies.

I admit I like getting Gwyneth's "seal of approval" too. Why is that?? And yes, I'd love that hearts of palm recipe!
