Scenes from The Weekend

Our visit to the modern was fantastic…I’m not used to going to the museum sans the girlies, and as much as I love taking them to see art, it was nice to be able to actually take things in without running after kiddos or worrying that that Millie might lick a painting (Audrey’s learned respect for the art…Millie, well…not so much.)

The Warhol exhibit was better than I expected, but the Modern also has a fantastic permanent collection, and I was especially taken with Nicholas Nixon’s memorizing The Brown Sisters (below), a series of photographs taken yearly for the past 30+ years of his wife and her sisters. It inspired us to do something similar with our girls…it was a magical depiction of the progression of time.

While Saturday was a bit of a grown-up day, Sunday was all about the girlies. I clearly jinxed things with all my talk of lovely weather, and we had gloomy, grey rain all day… But it was a perfect excuse to hunker down with some movies and make homemade patty melts. So all-in-all good stuff. Hope your weekend was splendid.

A few more shots from the museum...

  4. Seeing art quietly, by yourself, can be such a nice break!

  5. I love The Modern! Sometimes it's nicer, though, to go to the museum by yourself, no distractions.

I've been reading for awhile but haven't really posted any comments. You have a lovely blog, and I like seeing familiar bits of my hometown!

  10. I very nearly went to the Warhol show this weekend too. Instead we planted herbs and mulched up our garden. (a Saturday thing with the sun) Then Sunday, I curled up in front of a fire with all of my design books that I got for Christmas and hadn't properly looked at.

You have inspired me. I am going to Warhol today. Wow, what great weather we are going to have in Dallas. 75.
