images via poppytalkBut I miss magazines...dreadfully.
This time last year I still had my beloved Domino and Cookie and Gourmet.
True there's still Vogue and Vanity Fair and Martha, but nothing that (for me) replaces the visual inspiration that was the trifecta above.
And I had a very specific "system" for how I read them (weird I know, but hang with me here...) When I would get a new magazine in the mail, I'd immediately do a quick scan, cover-to-cover (really just a flip-through if you will) to see what was in store for the more in-depth read to come.
Then, (and only when I knew I had at least an hour of uninterrupted time, which was usually after the girlies were in bed or early in the morning) I would slowly read every page.
Every. Single. Page.
You just can't do that online... at least not in the same way, no matter how good the content (and yes, there are online magazines with stellar content like my beloved Small and the relatively new Lonny.)
So I'm pretty excited to get my hands on the new zine from the blogger behind Happy Mundane. Called At Your Leisure, it's billed by the creators as:

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and entering the giveaway. :-)
i miss magazines too. i'm still mourning domino, and i loved gourmet too. i'm gonna check At Your Leisure out.
ReplyDeletei agree...i miss holding a magazine, sitting by a fire...then holding it again a week later while sitting on the porch...then re-reading it again 6 months later on the beach.
ReplyDeleteah, thank you for sharing. i miss my mags too. i'm trying to be an adult about it and adapt but, i'm having serious withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteI will check it out!! thanks ~~
ReplyDeleteI also miss magazines... just a few days ago a dear friend from Holland gave me this enormous amount of magazines and I loved it!
ReplyDeletei miss magazines, too!
ReplyDeleteit's an experience that just can't be duplicated.
I SO miss magazines! There is a great deal lost when you remove the print & paper. I love beautiful page layouts, something missing from the blog world.
ReplyDeleteexciting! i'll have to check that out! gorgeous blog. xo
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love blogs, and I love them a lot, there is just nothing that can compare to tearing into a new issue. I was dumbfounded at the loss of Domino and can't come to terms with Cookie shutting it's doors. But now there's hope at the mailbox! I just ordered my issue. Thanks for the heads-up and happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I know exactly what you mean! I do roughly the same thing with my magazines. I babysat a little girl who also loved magazines but would always call them mazagines. It stuck. I love mazagines and miss some off them dreadfully!
ReplyDeleteI so agree! There's nothing like settling in with a favorite magazine. And I definitely have my own little process too : )
ReplyDeleteI miss them too!!!! Has Cookie sent out it's last issue? I'm thinking so because I haven't gotten one in awhile :( boo!

I'm still mourning the loss of Domino and to be hit with the loss of Cookie too... wow. Plus, I was finding some solace in watching Pure Design on HGTV. Season 2 had just started and then it disappeared. No longer in my scheduled recordings, GONE. I found out yesterday that HGTV is not airing it. It's the best interior design show on TV right now, eco-friendly and budget-conscious without being slap-dash like some others. For whatever reason, HGTV finds it more appealing to rerun the same Property Virgins and House Hunters over and over and over and over. I'm really angry and disappointed! I can't believe there are so many of us, wanting our magazines and shows and they still disappear.
ReplyDeleteBTW, la la Lovely... I'm pretty sure the last issue of Cookie has been sent. Their site hasn't been updated since late October. :(
OMG! i thought i was the only one who used that magazine plan of attack!
ReplyDeleteglad to learn i'm not alone ....
i miss domino, too.
