What I Bought Thursdays

I think the most important thing to share this week (even more important than what I actually purchased) is that I feel no guilt whatsoever about my acquisitions. "Why", you ask? Well I actually set out to go shopping last Sunday. I went into the whole enterprise with my eyes wide open, it was after all, my first real shopping trip in several months, one that I knew could very well result in bringing home things I might not really “need."

I did set some ground rules...
  • First I could only buy something if I really loved it. And under no circumstances could I buy something that I merely "liked" just because it was deeply discounted...
  • If I did buy something on sale, it had to be something I would have happily bought at full price.
  • And last (and most important), I had to be able to afford it…i.e. cash only.

I came home with two tops from Anthropologie (one on sale and one full price but still very reasonable) and a white dress from the Gap that I’ve been stalking for a while (that happened to be less than half the original price.)

Guilt-free shopping aside, I’m done with buying clothes until the fall, as I really have everything I need to get me through the ridiculously hot Texas summer (aforementioned scheme notwithstanding…I’m still working on that one.) I’m counting on you guys to keep me honest here!

  5. I love your rules for shopping, esp only buying sale items that you would buy at full price. Totally guilty there! You have great taste too!

  6. I can't get the blue blouse out of my head and can't find it on Anthro's website. Can you steer me in the right direction? Thanks!

  12. I'd say a successful shopping trip and well thought out.

So far, I've indulged in a few new camisoles (necessity every summer,) a handmade tunic top off etsy (my small splurge,) a new swimming suit from urban outfitters, and that's just about it.

I too am done with shopping until fall. I've got all I need and feel good with the new additions. We'll stay honest together...

  17. I follow those same ground rules. I once read that you should never buy something on sale that you wouldn't buy full price. I think about that mantra every single time I shop. I've also noticed that when I don't shop very often, I appreciate those excursions that much more.
